Running, Cooking, and Making the Most of Your Day!

This week has been absolutely hectic! there is SO much I want to write about and share with you, but as always, it’ll be in baby steps.

First, I am DELIGHTED to be telling you that tomorrow (Thursday October 11!!) I will be interviewing the president of the Beirut Marathon Association May El-Khalil and I’m just psyched about it! I previously ran the women empowerment 10k “run” which is shared with all of you, and have already signed up for the November “run for lebanon” 10k. Here’s hoping I score a better time in this run!

Second, my trip to the supermarket the other yielded a bigger surprise than i expected when my “buycott” app told me that this Golden Seed Canola oil is a rare product that is from a restricted area! I didn’t fully understand the labeling, so if anyone can explain this further for me – that would be great! (in all cases, im taking it as a positive thing!) GMOs are Genetically Modified Organisms – they are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses or other plants and animals, mainly to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or an insecticide.  If you want more info on this, a fellow dietitian and other colleagues have started a GMO free Lebanon facebook page which can update you on the latest GMO news. I will go into detail in further posts about GMOs as well.

Third, I started an new workout routine – which includes waking up at 7am to hit the gym for an hour before going to work. Below is why I think it is the best idea in the world:

1- It’s among the 5 things super successful people do according to this article

2- It boosts your metabolism, and keeps it going for hours!

3- You are more likely to keep the habit of exercising if you do it first thing in the morning, before LIFE takes over

4- Improves your work performance because you head to the office energetic, and proud that you just killed your exercise routine!

5- Helps you start your day with a better mood. This is because of the good hormones (endorphines) released during the workout.

Fourth, I promised to give you “freezing” dates and durations for different food items. I already shared the fruits shelf life, and this is the one for vegetables!
