If you’re used to chugging down Gatorade, and would like a healthier and possibly cheaper option, then you will be pleasantly surprised with how simple it is to make your own energy replacement drink.
You will need:
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup hot water
- 1/4 cup orange juice (not concentrate; you can also use any other juice if you prefer but orange you can actually make fresh and quite easily, if you’re going to use another juice then I would reduce the sugar to about 2 tablespoons) plus 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 3 1/2 cups cold water
- OPTIONAL: 1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon magnesium-calcium supplement (i’m not a big fan of supplements, but if you are training hard and your blood tests show a deficiency, then supplementation is an option you should be considering)
1. In the bottom of a pitcher, dissolve the sugar and salt in the hot water (add optional magnesium here as well)
2. Add the juice and the remaining water; chill.
3. Quench that thirst!
