Latest on Health: Sugary drinks and deaths

According to a new study which was presented at the American Heart Association, one in every 100 deaths from obesity-related diseases is caused by drinking sugary beverages. If you haven’t quit already, and you were looking for that added reason – this is the one for you.

Here is the spin on why this might be happening: When people drink too many sugary drinks such as soft drinks, fruit drinks, energy or sports beverages, they tend to put on weight. Researchers of the study are saying that this added weight increase the risk of developing diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some cancers — or also known as obesity-related diseases.

They looked at 114 national dietary surveys covering more than 60% of the world’s population, and evidence from studies only dietary habits and sugary drinks. . They looked at all kinds of factors that can affect our weight such as TV watching, changes in physical activity levels, smoking and the consumption of all kinds of food and drink. Eventually this lead them to finding out that more people died from diabetes, heart disease and cancer in parts of the world where consumption of sugary drinks is high.

  1. Thanks for the info and I find its not that hard to believe sugary drinks play a big part in our health. Interestingly enough, at the beginning of the year I gave up all sugary drinks (soft drinks, processed juices, and coffee). It was difficult at first but now I no longer crave them. I just stick to water, tea and sometimes my own homemade juices and I feel like I have more energy, etc. Its good to know I am helping my body out greatly by doing so!
